School is winding down in a few weeks and it’s getting hot.  What do you have planned to stay cool this summer?  You may want to consider a trip to Schlitterbahn New Braunfels, which has been America’s #1 waterpark for 18 years!

MB1

This year the World’s Most Award Winning Uphill Water Coaster, The Master Blaster, turns 20 (man I feel old)!  Built in 1996, this 2.5 minute ride is over 65 feet tall and sends guests on an exhilarating ride down two, 3 story drops. Did you know that Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is also home to the world’s longest tube ride?  Schlitterbahn definitely has something for everyone with their many slides, blasters, rivers, relaxing pools, hot tubs, and even swim-up bars.

One thing I’ve always loved about Schlitterbahn is that, unlike other parks, they allow you to bring your own ice chest of food and drinks (no alcohol or glass containers).  By packing sandwiches, chips, fruit, and lots of water you can stay nourished and hydrated while staying on budget.

Probably my favorite thing about them is that they celebrate American Heroes Week by providing FREE admission to members of the Military, Police, Firefighter & EMTs with valid ID.  This year it’s from Monday, 05/30, to Sunday, 06/05.  You can see details here.

If you plan to frequent Schlitterbahn New Braunfels you can receive $5 off your season pass purchase thru the end of May.

Take note that they have locations in New Braunfels, TX, Galveston Island, TX, South Padre Island, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, and Kansas City, KS.  If you’re ready to plan a trip to Schlitterbahn you check out their FAQs page here.  If you’re interested you can read about our trip from last year here.

Schlitterbahn Waterpark – Review & Frugal Tips

Disclosure: This post is sponsored by US Family Guide and Schlitterbahn.

Summer vacation is in full swing.  If you’re in the San Antonio/New Braunfels area, or are planning to visit soon, you’ll definitely want to check out the #1 ranked Waterpark in World  for the past 16 years!  That’s right, Schlitterbahn New Braunfels, which is nestled along the banks of the Comal River.

Being a frugal mom, I’m going to give you some ticket purchase options for the 2015 season.  Of course, this will be the biggest expense of your visit.  You can go with whatever option suits your family best.  Even the gate price without any discounts is well worth it for the amount of fun you are going to have.

One-Day General Admission (Ages 12 – 54) $53.99 +tax at the gate
One-Day Child/Senior Admission (Ages 3 – 11, and 55+) $43.99 +tax at the gate

One-Day General Admission (Ages 12 – 54) $48.99 +tax online
One-Day Child/Senior Admission (Ages 3 – 11, and 55+) $38.99 +tax online
*Be sure you have a printer or you’ll be charges for them to mail these to you

Two-Day General Admission (Ages 12 – 54) $80.99 +tax at the gate
Two-Day Child/Senior Admission (Ages 3 – 11, and 55+) $65.99 +tax at the gate

Two-Day General Admission (Ages 12 – 54) $78.99 +tax online
Two-Day Child/Senior Admission (Ages 3 – 11, and 55+) $63.99 +tax online
*Be sure you have a printer or you’ll be charges for them to mail these to you

If you plan on bringing a group of 15 or more you can head over here to see what kind of group rates you’re eligible for.

They also have several other packages that include a custom towel and souvenir bottles that include free refills.  See all of the packages here.  You can also get tickets from local HEB grocery stores and you may find coupons at various locations such as Taco Bell and KFC (may vary each year).

Where you’re really going to save money is with the FREE parking, FREE tubes, FREE lifejackets, and being able to bring your own cooler with food and drinks (excluding alcohol & glass containers).  During our trip I made sure we had plenty of water, sandwiches, chips, and fruit.  Once we were there the only expense we had was a $10 locker, but we got back a $2 deposit when we turned in the key.  You’ll want to get one of these for at least your keys and wallet, though they fit much more.

The original section of Schlitterbahn, Schlitterbahn West, is home to many tube chutes, slides, and more.  Most attractions here flow with water from the Comal River and some even end final drop that leads right into the river.

Screen shot 2015-07-13 at 9.40.47 AM

The newer sections of Schlitterbahn, Blastenhoff & Tubenbach, feature the Master Blaster, the world’s first uphill water coaster, and The Falls, the world’s longest tube ride at 45 minutes.  It’s actually endless so you can continue riding until you’re content, but can exit at several points along the way.

I can honestly say that this is the most fun I’ve had with my kids in a really long time.  They are at the perfect ages where they understand the dangers of water so they are cautious, but at the same time they’re adventurous and ready to try new things.  They are 9, 11, & 13 and all of them went on nearly every tube ride and slide (we missed a couple due to time constraints).  Just a tip for those with kids in tow, it’s nearly impossible to stay together as a group on the tube chutes.  There are some that fork left or right, be sure to decide ahead of time which way you want to go or just come up with a general “go right” if you didn’t decide at the beginning of the ride.

Top 3 Bummers:

  1. Not having a waterproof camera or waterproof case for my phone.  Amazon has waterproof cameras and waterproof phone cases starting around $8!
  2. Not wearing watershoes.  You can certainly walk around barefoot without any issues, but I think I needed a little bit of arch support.  My feet were hurting the next day.  You can find watershoes starting at $4 here.
  3. The line for the Master Blaster.  I think next time we will start out at Blastenhoff first in hopes of hitting the big rides there first.

Top 3 Highlights:

  1. Seeing how much fun my kids were having.  The looks on their faces were priceless.
  2. Once we were there only having to spend $8, which was on a locker fee (less deposit), because we were able to bring our own lunch and drinks.
  3. The Master Blaster.  The line was long, but it was totally worth it.

Whether you’re looking for a thrill or wanting to relax Schlitterbahn has something for everyone with their many slides, blasters, rivers, relaxing pools, hot tubs, and even swim-up bars.

In addition to the New Braunfels, TX location there are others in Galveston Island, TX, South Padre Island, TX, Corpus Christi, TX, and Kansas City, KS.  If you’re ready to plan a trip to Schlitterbahn you check out their FAQs page here.

With school coming to an end and the temperatures rising some of you may be thinking about what to do this summer.  One of the things on my family’s agenda is a trip to Schlitterbahn New Braunfels.  It’s been America’s #1 waterpark for 17 years and has won awards for best waterpark, best waterpark ride, and best new ride!  In addition to having the world’s longest tube ride, it’s home to the world’s first uphill water coaster and the inland surfing ride, the Boogie Bahn.

Being a frugal mom, one of the things I love most about Schlitterbahn is that, unlike other parks, they allow you to bring your own ice chest of food and drinks (no alcohol or glass containers).  By packing sandwiches, chips, fruit, and lots of water you can stay nourished and hydrated without breaking the bank, especially with the couponing skills I know my readers have.
